Tutoring

As a credentialed Orton-Gillingham Certified Level Practitioner, I offer 1:1 Orton-Gillingham tutoring. I work with children that have a dyslexia diagnosis as well as those that simply struggle to read.

In order to make sufficient progress and close the reading gap, a minimum of two sessions per week are required. Tutoring sessions are 50 minutes each. Lessons are taught in person or online.

The pace is set by the student as each child has their own speed for learning. We progress through the Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence as the child masters each skill.

Remediating dyslexia is not a quick fix. Giving students the tools they need to succeed in life takes time. It is imperative that tutors meet the dyslexic child where they are and not where we expect them to be because of their age or grade.

… their brains are not broken and they are not stupid. Children need to know this. They need to know that they can be taught to read and spell, and it doesn’t mean they will struggle with everything. In fact, dyslexics often think of creative and unexpected ways to solve problems and challenges.
